Moose Cannon Rescues
My dedication to animal rescue has allowed me to provide a safe and loving home for over 30 animals, each with their own unique story. The most recent addition is a pair of American Pekin ducks (Peggy and Hugh Quackman), rescued by the MK Swan Rescue after being abandoned at a pond — vulnerable to predators due to their inability to fly. I also rescued four mistreated Embden geese named Dobby, Barrack, Angela, and Nelson, who had been kept in an overcrowded shed without access to water. Sadly, Dobby’s splayed leg, caused by being raised on a hard floor, proved too severe despite multiple vet visits, surgeries, and my personally designed boot — which the vet later praised and adopted for future cases. Despite my best efforts, Dobby sadly passed away, but the remaining geese found a wonderful new home with a close friend who has a large lake for them to enjoy. They have since had over five babies and now happily chase and honk at anyone nearby.
Among my rescues was Susan, a piranha who had been kept in a tiny aquarium with no room to swim freely. Susan was given a massive upgrade to a brand-new 450-litre planted tank and was fed a varied diet of different types of fish daily — and even, on one occasion, scallops (which she rejected — who knew piranhas could be so fussy?).
Leo and Muffin, two beloved animals whose owners faced changing circumstances, also found comfort and care with me. Leo's journey is especially touching — he was discovered on the streets over 45 years ago and had been cherished by a kind elderly woman before coming into my care. I've also aided a distressed hedgehog, five mallard ducklings narrowly escaping a busy road, and two lionhead rabbits who had never felt the earth beneath their feet, having lived in a tiny enclosure piled high with their droppings. Lastly, I saved three rats — Gus, Rufus, and Jaq — from becoming snake food, giving them a chance at a much happier life.
Many of these animals went on to take part in educational presentations and awareness talks at schools, businesses, and other events, helping to teach and inspire people of all ages to care for and protect nature. By sharing their stories, these animals have played a vital role in encouraging compassion, responsibility, and action towards wildlife and the environment.
